Markdown Viewer
Paste Markdown or open a .md file and see a live, safely sanitized preview. Copy or download the Markdown, or export the rendered result as a complete HTML file — all in your browser, with no upload and no account.
The rendered preview appears here as you type or open a file.
What this Markdown preview tool does
Writers, developers and students keep notes, README files and documentation in Markdown. A raw Markdown file is hard to read, and installing a desktop editor just to check one file is overkill. This viewer gives you a side-by-side editor and live preview: type or paste Markdown on the left, read the formatted result on the right. When the document looks right, take the Markdown with you or export a standalone HTML page.
How to use it
Input and output
Input: any CommonMark or GitHub-Flavored Markdown (tables, task lists, strikethrough, fenced code), up to 1,000,000 characters. Output: the original Markdown, a sanitized HTML fragment, or a complete standalone HTML document with clean typography.
Security and privacy
- Files and text are processed in your browser; nothing is uploaded to a server.
- Preview, copied HTML and downloaded HTML replace images with text placeholders, so opening them does not contact image hosts.
- Inline HTML is sanitized with a strict whitelist: scripts, event attributes and unsafe links never render.
- Links only use safe protocols (http, https, mailto, relative addresses).
Limitations
- Maximum input size: 1,000,000 characters.
- No syntax highlighting inside code blocks in this version.
- No PDF export and no cloud saving — by design.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Markdown viewer?
A Markdown viewer renders .md files and raw Markdown text as formatted documents — headings, lists, tables, links and code blocks — so you can read and check them without installing an editor. This one also gives you a live preview while you type.
Which Markdown syntax is supported?
All core CommonMark syntax plus GitHub-Flavored Markdown extensions: tables, task lists, strikethrough and fenced code blocks. Syntax highlighting for code is not included in this version.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is processed locally in your browser. The preview, copied HTML and downloaded HTML replace images with text placeholders, so opening a file here does not contact image hosts.
Why did my inline HTML disappear or change?
Raw HTML inside Markdown is sanitized with a strict whitelist. Scripts, event handlers (like onclick), iframes and links with unsafe addresses (such as javascript:) are removed so the preview and the exported HTML stay safe to open.
How large can my document be?
Up to 1,000,000 characters of Markdown, which covers documents of several hundred pages. Larger inputs are rejected with a clear message instead of freezing the page.
Can I export the preview as HTML?
Yes. Copy the sanitized HTML fragment, or download a standalone .html file with styling that opens directly in any browser. Images become text placeholders in both the preview and exported HTML; no remote image requests are made.
